Community Trust

As a charitable foundation licensee, the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust has a mission to support the communities we serve. We provide this support through charitable giving to those programs that promote healthy living and health care access, education and diversity, and economic and community development. Preference is given to programs that can be tracked and demonstrate a quantitative impact.

The Community Trust was formed in 1999 and began operation in January 2000 as a social welfare organization in accordance with 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(4).

Contribution guidelines and criteria

In 2007, the BlueCross and BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust contributed over $450,000 to more than 110 charitable organizations throughout the state of Tennessee. Community Trust contribution dollars are based on formal, stated criteria that reflect and reinforce our corporate purpose, beliefs and principles. Trust priorities include Access to Care/the Uninsured; Disease Management – Prevention & Early Detection; Disparities and Diversity; Education and Community Investments.

Applications are welcome, though eligibility and restrictions apply to each application submitted, and a committee will review each submission. Once approved, charitable organizations are required to follow through with both a Charitable Contribution Substantiation Report   and a Contribution Progress Report .
