Principles for Security

Security Principles

Millions of people count on BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee every day to provide affordable coverage for their health care needs. Since 1945, we have worked to deliver on our simple mission: provide peace of mind for our customers.

We recognize that security is a critical element in our ability to provide peace of mind not only for our members, but also our business partners and our employees. Therefore, we have developed Security Principles for our company to uphold:

  1. Safeguard the privacy and security of the personal information entrusted to us by our customers, business partners, and employees.
  2. Maintain the security of our own internal processes and data with the appropriate application of controls and security in our physical, technical, and administrative environments.
  3. Protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all sensitive information and critical processes under our control.
  4. Ensure that all our business partners adhere to similar concepts to maintain the same level of protection for our customers’ and partners’ information.
  5. Conform to all applicable industry standards and governmental laws and regulations. In any instance where a conflict arises between multiple standards, we commit to adhering to the most stringent and relevant standard.
  6. Strive to continuously improve our security and privacy processes to best protect our members and business partners.
  7. Conduct ongoing employee education regarding security policies and the importance of protecting members’ and business partners’ sensitive information.

Through the consistent application of these principles, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee will maintain its reputation as a nationally recognized health solutions company performing at the highest levels of quality and trust on behalf of our customers, business partners and employees.
