Acceptance of non-standard formats will only continue for a limited time. Providers and/or submitters should be actively testing the ANSI-837, version 4010A1 format via the company's self-testing system available on the Provider Home Page under Electronic Commerce. Providers should move into production on the HIPAA required format as soon as possible to avoid cash flow problems.

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee updated its timeline for acceptance of the NPI to be consistent with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) NPI timeline. This should allow an easier transition for electronic providers.
BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has met all required HIPAA implementation dates for Privacy, Standard Transactions and Code Sets, and Employer Identifiers.
We applied for an extension in August 2002, as permitted by the Administrative Simplification Compliance Act (ASCA), to allow adequate time for all electronic submitters to migrate to the new formats.
