CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Spring is here and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is welcoming the warmer weather to downtown Chattanooga with the return of its BlueCross Market Street Mile and Mystery History Quest, an event for those with a spring in their step or just spring fever.

The BlueCross Market Street Mile and Mystery History Quest combines fitness and fun through a series of one-mile races for the exercise-minded and a history scavenger hunt for those more fitness-shy.

Runners of all levels can be a part of the BlueCross Market Street Mile, which features races organized by age and gender. The course begins on Market Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets, travels south, turns right on 8th Street, and right again on Broad.

For those who would rather walk, the BlueCross Mystery History Quest, sponsored by the “Chattanooga Times Free Press,” will lead participants on a tour of Chattanooga’s past as they follow clues to historic locations throughout the Scenic City’s downtown. The scavenger hunt isn’t timed, but Questers must reach the final spot before noon to receive a prize.

“Everyone who participated in this event last year told us what a fun time they had, said Melodie Thompson, president of the Chattanooga Track Club, “so we’re really looking forward to this year’s event. Whether you’re a runner or a walker or just interested in history, it’s a great way to get in a little exercise while enjoying the beautiful spring weather and having some fun.”

Both events kick off with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the Tennessee Aquarium Plaza in downtown Chattanooga. The BlueCross Market Street Mile races begin at 9 a.m. Registration fees range from $4 to $12 per person, depending on age and date of registration. All participants receive an event t-shirt and goody bag. Applications are available at all Chattanooga YMCA and Sports Barn locations, Fast Break Athletics, or Front Runner locations.
