BlueCross Coaches Members To Better Health
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is now offering Tennesseans a chance to team up for better health. With the introduction of Lifestyle Coaches, a Well+Wise program offering, BlueCross members now have access to one-on-one, personalized lifestyle coaching, which can offer the education and motivation needed to make smart health decisions.
The program, intended to help members understand their personal health risks and make proactive, healthy lifestyle changes, is integrated into the health benefit plans offered to insured groups of 150 or fewer employees. It is available to large groups of up to 1,500 employees at affordable rates.
“Employee participation in a lifestyle coaching program can result in lower employee absenteeism, an increase in productivity and has the potential to produce future reduction in an employer’s healthcare costs,” said Lora Rayburn, disease management program manager for BlueCross. “Our Lifestyle Coaches are qualified professionals who take the results of the online personal health analysis and give targeted assistance to make members aware of the health risks they may face and then work with them to develop healthier habits.”
The process is simple:
1. Members go to bcbst.com and complete the personal health analysis quiz.
2. Receive instant feedback with a health analysis score
3. Call toll-free and talk to their personal health coach
The health analysis helps identify certain lifestyle choices and behaviors that may be putting a member’s health at risk. Follow-up coaching sessions target those risks and habits to help members gain better control of eight critical factors: weight, tobacco use, stress factors, fitness level, diabetes risk, blood pressure, cholesterol level and bone strength.
“Many people think that genetic factors determine a person’s health. But in reality, health behaviors and lifestyle choices may have more than twice the impact on a person’s overall health than genetics. So every positive change can have an impact,” said Rayburn.
BlueCross Lifestyle Coaches are registered nurses or have a bachelor’s degree in a health related discipline (nursing, dietetics, exercise science, etc.) and many have advanced certification.
