CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has promoted Judith Nelson to vice president and chief compliance officer.

In this position, Nelson will direct and oversee the corporate compliance, provider audit, and anti-fraud programs.

“Judith brings a high level of experience and professionalism to this role,” said Bill Young, senior vice president of risk management and general counsel for BlueCross. “Her understanding of audit and compliance guidelines is an asset when supporting BlueCross’ highly regulated lines of business.”

Nelson joined BlueCross in 1990 as an analyst in the internal audit division. In her 18 years with the company, she has served the enterprise in various capacities including leadership roles in provider contracts administration and health care services divisions, and as a business operations manager in enterprise planning. She most recently served as the director of external audit and compliance.

Prior to joining BlueCross, Nelson served as a health data consultant for Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
