CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Susan Whitmire, manager of enterprise records and information management at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, was recently inducted into the Company of Fellows by ARMA International, a not-for-profit professional organization focused on building expertise in managing records and information.

One of only 43 individuals to receive this level of international recognition since the award’s inception in 1990, Whitmire joins professionals who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements and contributions in records and information management, as well as noteworthy accomplishments in all levels of the association. “We are proud of Susan and the professional achievements this award represents,” said Judith Nelson, vice president of external audit and chief compliance officer for BlueCross. “Susan has built an outstanding reputation as a leader in industry best practices and her dedication to excellence is unwavering.”

With a 28-year career in records and information management (RIM) for the insurance industry, Whitmire’s experience ranges from creating RIM programs from scratch and managing physical and electronic records, to developing imaging and email technology. Whitmire has been through several acquisitions and mergers, including the merger of four insurance companies where her expertise was essential in selecting and implementing records management software across multiple state lines.

Whitmire joined ARMA in 1978 and has held various positions at all levels, including chapter and regional, as well as serving two terms on the ARMA International Board of Directors. She has also held leadership roles in the ARMA International Educational Foundation.
