CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — David Marckel has been appointed to the role of vice president of enterprise applications for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

As vice-president, he will oversee all application development, maintenance and support of software/technology-based business applications across the company.

“I am confident that David will put his 25 years of experience in the health care industry to good use in his expanded role,” said Nick Coussoule, senior vice president and chief information officer for BlueCross. “His performance is exceptional and regardless of the business unit or application, David is continually focused on improving services for our members.”

Prior to his new role, Marckel was the director of enterprise applications for the information technology division at BlueCross. There he had enterprise-wide responsibility for the development, maintenance and support of business applications, which included the 2 million member commercial market as well as growing government markets.

Before joining BlueCross in 1994, he was employed by the Hawaii Medical Service Association, the Toledo Hospital and BlueCross BlueShield of Northwest Ohio.

Marckel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Toledo. He and his wife, Linda, have three grown daughters.
