Tennessee Senior Olympics Calendar Fundraiser Returns
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — It’s that time of year again to purchase a Tennessee Senior Olympics calendar. This year, each calendar is in full color and remains $10, with proceeds going to the Tennessee Senior Olympics, an organization that promotes healthy lifestyles for seniors.|
The calendar, sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, consists of 15 featured Olympians from across the state. Each month highlights an athlete competing for medals in sports ranging from swimming to track and field. Each page includes a photo of an athlete along with his or her inspiring quote.
“We’re very excited to again be able to sell these calendars, which not only helps us raise awareness of the Games but also raise funds to support them,” said Christine Dewbre, executive director for the Tennessee Senior Olympics. “And this year’s calendars are in full color so you can see these amazing senior athletes at their very vivid and vibrant best.”
The calendar promotes a senior Olympian from a different city in Tennessee each month. Nancy Brock of Chattanooga is featured for the month of December. Her competition event is volleyball. According to Brock, “When we get older, we are not as competitive as the 20-year-olds and 30-year-olds. We think ‘Oh, I can’t compete at that level,’ and we don’t want to. When put in an environment with people in my own age group, I think, ‘I can hang with these people.’”
“We’re proud to once again support the Tennessee Senior Olympics with this important fundraiser,” said Sharon Dicorato, manager of community programs for BlueCross’ senior care division. “To see these athletes commit to setting goals and pushing themselves in healthy competition, as well as having fun doing it, is what the Tennessee Senior Olympics is all about.”
