CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Alcoa, Baylor, Columbia Central, Greeneville, Jo Byrns, Knox Webb, Smyrna and Trinity Christian high schools were winners in the first-ever BlueCross Fan Faceoff, a “texting” school spirit contest conducted as part of the BlueCross Bowl earlier this month.

Each school faced off against their divisional foe in a text-message contest, with the schools receiving the most text votes at the end of each match-up taking home the prize. Nearly 17,000 texts messages were received among the 16 schools competing in the TSSAA games, with Greeneville high school accruing the most overall votes (2,411).

The winning schools received a $1,000 donation from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, the title sponsor of the state football championships held earlier this month at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tenn.

“We congratulate all the schools that participated in the BlueCross Bowl this year and thank all the students, parents, faculty and fans for participating in the Faceoff contest,” said Janet McConnell, director of brand strategy and new media for BlueCross. “Contributing much-needed dollars to these schools is one way our company can give back to individual communities throughout Tennessee and make a lasting contribution to the schools.”

Smyrna High had the second-highest vote total with 1,948 texts, followed by Columbia Central (1,817), Jo Byrns (1,255), Hendersonville (1,086), Trinity Christian (1,070), Knox Webb (932) and Alcoa (929).
