TennesseeHealth.com Takes the Lead in Health Care
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Consumers seeking information on health care quality and cost can now access the award-winning TennesseeHealth.com Web site, sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.
Honored for its medical technology ratings (MTR), TennesseeHealth.com recently received the Leadership in Health Care Award from the Biotech Medical Management Association, a leading non-profit organization that seeks to educate the managed care industry on the need for clinically effective and cost-efficient consumer products.
“The medical technology rating site is a beneficial resource for consumers,” said Rick Mathis, Ph.D., manager of medical policy research and development at BlueCross. “By using the ratings, Tennesseans can make informed decisions relevant to the cost and quality of what can often be difficult or confusing health care choices.”
BlueCross created the MTR to convey medical information on topics important to consumers, including health results, safety ratings, alternative treatments, and cost effectiveness.
The MTR assesses various medical technologies and procedures such as hormone replacement therapy and skin cancer screenings. Procedures are rated on a five-point scale ranging from significant value to no value/possible harm.
According to Bill Cecil, director of health policy research at BlueCross, consumers can find the answers to many of their most frequently asked questions: does the procedure work, will it improve quality of life, are there alternative treatments, how much does it cost, and is it worth the money?
“By posting this information online, BlueCross is able to meet consumer demand for reliable information on the financial and medical value of their health care services,” Cecil said.
