NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A season of grueling work and guts on the gridiron is about to be rewarded as six of the state’s best high school football teams advance to the Clinic Bowl championships this week.

The Clinic Bowl, presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, will be played at Vanderbilt’s Dudley Field in Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 22 to determine the TSSAA Division II High School Football Champions in Tennessee.

The Clinic Bowl kicks off Friday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. (CST) with the Class A championship game between Bishop Byrne and Southern Baptist Educational Center Action continues at 2:30 p.m. (CST) with Battleground Academy and Knoxville Catholic battling it out for the Class AA title. Finally, Brentwood Academy and Montgomery Bell Academy meet head to head at 7 p.m. (CST) for the Class AAA crown.

“These student athletes have dedicated themselves to hard work and healthy competition,“ said Ronnie Carter, executive director of TSSAA. “That dedication is about to pay off with an appearance in the Clinic Bowl and a possible state title.”

As presenting sponsor of the Clinic Bowl, BlueCross is able to promote the Healthy Competition program, which educates athletes about the dangers of using performance-enhancing drugs.

“This partnership not only provides an important avenue for us to promote physical fitness and teamwork, but it also gives us a popular platform to educate youth about performance-enhancing drugs and their many adverse, even deadly effects,” said Joan Harp, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for BlueCross.

The 54th annual Clinic Bowl is produced by the Nashville Area Junior Chamber of Commerce (NAJCC) and the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA). Proceeds from the games benefit the Vanderbilt-Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital.
