BlueCross Wins Green Light Award
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The East Tennessee chapter of the Green Building Council has identified BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee as the 2012 winner of its Green Light Award for enriching the lives of workers, residents, and visitors through the insurer’s commitment to environmental sustainability.|
BlueCross was recognized for its Gold LEED-certification for both its Cameron Hill campus and the recently renovated Gateway building in Chattanooga, and for specific improvements related to environmental sustainability, such as:
• A 198.24 kilowatt solar array at the Gateway building
• State-of-the-art water control, that includes filtering for storm-water runoff and retention of rainwater for irrigation, and
• Commitment to indoor air quality
“When planning began for the new Cameron Hill campus we made a commitment to sustainable design,” said Dan Jacobson, vice president of properties and corporate services for BlueCross. “We wanted to show regional businesses that being environmentally friendly and operating efficiently were compatible goals.”
“BlueCross is a true leader in the cause of sustainability,” said USGBC-ET education specialist James Kane. “They showcase a passion for employee health and environmental responsibility, and have enriched the Chattanooga community.”
The Green Light Award is given annually to celebrate the accomplishments of the green building community. It is the highest award given by the Green Building Council to honor an organization that has been a leader in the community for the cause of sustainability.
