CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee elected BB&T Corporation executive Martha S. “Missy” Wallen to serve on its board of directors. Wallen recently retired from BB&T after serving as the company’s East Tennessee regional president since 2007.

Wallen has more than 40 years of experience in the banking industry in the Knoxville area. She joined BB&T in 2001 and served as a city executive, business banking manager and retail banking manager before being named a regional president.

“Missy’s extensive background in finance and banking and her deep roots in the Knoxville community will be a great benefit to our company and our members,” said Bill Gracey, BlueCross president and CEO. “Her insight and experience lend themselves well to our mission of providing affordable health care to our members.”

Wallen holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee and a graduate degree from Louisiana State University – School of Banking of the South. She serves on various boards in the Knoxville area including the Development Corporation of Knox County and the University of Tennessee Knoxville Alumni Association.
