CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has named Dr. Suzanne Baker to the post of senior medical director for special programs.

In her new role, Baker will be primarily responsible for the medical oversight of the development and implementation of disease management programs consistent with the needs of the TennCare program. She will also have responsibilities for network development and maintenance, population analysis and regulatory compliance.

Baker will report directly to Dr. Steve Coulter, senior vice president and chief medical officer.

For the past three years, Baker has served as a regional medical director for BlueCross. In this position she functioned as a liaison with the provider community and oversaw the review and processing of provider appeals.

Before joining BlueCross in 2001, Baker served as president, chief manager and clinician of the Complete Health Care Center, MPLLC in Memphis, Tenn.

Baker holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology and a doctorate of medicine from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Executives, the Bluff Medical Society and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
