Chattanooga, Tenn.— BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee urges seniors who want to compete in the 2004 Tennessee Senior Games state finals to sign up for an open event.

Seniors who did not participate or qualify in the district games are eligible to compete.

Open events include archery, racquetball, cycling (5K/20K), 5K and 10K runs, and a one-mile power walk.

The games are open to seniors 50 and older. Participants can actually be 49 years old to participate in the state games, if their 50th birthday occurs before the end of 2004. The state finals will be held July 16–22 on the campus of Austin Peay State University and surrounding facilities in Clarksville.

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is the presenting sponsor of the Tennessee Senior Games. The Games, which got their start in 1981, are expected to attract more than 3,000 Tennessee seniors statewide this year.

“Each district offers specific events based on local participant interest and available resources. We’ve provided this open registration in order to give athletes a chance to participate in their chosen event,” said Christine Dewbre, executive director of the Tennessee Senior Games.
