CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has promoted Rodney Woods to vice president of government programs.

Woods will head BlueCross’ Medicare operations, d.b.a. Riverbend Government Benefits Administrator, as well as oversee the company’s participation in the Federal Employee Program (FEP). He succeeds Ann Keown, who will retire this year.

As the newly selected vice president of government programs, Woods will seek to continue and improve the award-winning performance of the company’s Medicare and FEP operations, while positioning them for future growth and opportunities.

“Rodney’s capability to drive organizational improvements and implement best practices will be an asset,” said Bill Everley, senior vice president of benefits administration for BlueCross.

Woods started his career at BlueCross in 2002. He previously held the post of director of compensation, benefits and human resource information systems, where he assisted in developing the company’s first human capital strategy initiative. Prior to that he was a senior manager of provider network/pricing and special administration.

Before joining BlueCross, Woods was employed by Four Seasons Technologies and Duracell, a division of the Gillette Company.

A native of Sacramento, Calif., Woods holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Temple Baptist Theological Seminary in Chattanooga.

Woods and his wife, Carol, have two sons.
