Find Ways to Help With Costs

Health Insurance is More Affordable Than You Think

It's a new day in health care – and we're here to help you understand the costs as well as find ways to make protecting your health more affordable.

The new health care law brought a number of changes to how we all shop for insurance. In short, the law helps you get affordable coverage in 3 different ways, depending on your income and family size:

  • Lower costs on monthly premiums via tax credit.
  • Lower out-of-pocket costs for copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles via requirements in the health care law, depending on your income and family size.
  • Low-cost coverage through Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Do I Qualify for Help?

The federal government ultimately determines whether your income and family size mean you're eligible for assistance with the costs of health insurance. However, here are some easy guidelines that can give you a rough idea.

Am I Eligible for the Tax Credit?

Tax credits depend on income and family size and are available for people making up to 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level:

  • Single person with an income up to $45,960*
  • Family of 4 with an income up to $94,200*
  • Family of 5 with an income up to $110,280*
  • Family of 6 with an income up to $126,360*
  • Family of 7 with an income up to $142,440*
  • Family of 8 with an income up to $158,520*

Am I Eligible for Extra Help With Out-Of-Pocket Costs?

Yes – if your income is 250 percent or less of the Federal Poverty Level:

  • Single person with an income of $28,725* or less
  • Family of 4 with an income of $58,875* or less
  • Family of 5 with an income of $68,925* or less
  • Family of 6 with an income of $78,975* or less
  • Family of 7 with an income of $89,025* or less
  • Family of 8 with an income of $99,075* or less
