Enrollment has reopened for CoverKids, Tennessee’s program for uninsured children.

The program suspended enrollment in late 2009 when membership reached the maximum that could be supported by the current budget.

Families with uninsured children may apply online at www.CoverKids.com  or by calling 1-866-620-8864.

CoverKids offers comprehensive health insurance coverage to uninsured children and qualified pregnant women, similar to the benefits offered to dependents of state employees. Emphasis will be placed on preventive care and services most needed by children, including vaccinations, well-child visits, healthy babies program, and developmental screenings.

Qualifications include:

• Must be a child 18 or younger or a pregnant woman who meets eligibility criteria
• Household income up to 250% of federal poverty level. Buy-in is available for children in households with higher incomes.
• U.S. citizen or qualified alien
• Tennessee resident
• Be without health coverage for three months (waived for newborns up to four months of age).
• Screened first for TennCare eligibility or access to other state-sponsored insurance

Refer to the table of qualifying incomes  based on federal poverty guidelines to see if your child qualifies. No monthly premiums will be charged but each participant will pay reduced co-payments for services.

HealthyTNBabies offers coverage for pregnancies and complications of pregnancies to qualified pregnant women. Coverage begins with the date of application through 60 days after the pregnancy has ended.

To be eligible for HealthyTNBabies, a pregnant woman must:

• a) be enrolled in CoverTN.
• b) be enrolled in CoverKids, or
• c) have a household income up to 250% of the federal poverty level, and be without health coverage for three months

Additional qualifications include:

• U.S. citizen or qualified alien.
• Tennessee resident.
• Screened first for TennCare eligibility or access to other state-sponsored insurance.

In additional to coverage for the pregnancy and complications of pregnancy, HealthyTNBabies offers a comprehensive pharmacy plan.
