ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

CoverTN program officials have announced that new enrollment in the limited benefit health insurance program is suspended (as of December 31, 2009) as a result of reaching budget capacity.

Current members and participating businesses will be unaffected by the suspension.  For current members and participating employers, new members can still be added to the plan under the following circumstances:

  • Current CoverTN members can add spouses due to a qualifying event
  • Current participating employers can continue to enroll new employees

State eligibility guidelines:

Because CoverTN is part of the Cover Tennessee initiative, you must meet certain criteria established by the state to be eligible for the limited benefit coverage.

An employee of a participating employer must:

  • Be 19 years old or older
  • Be a U.S. citizen or qualified legal alien
  • Work at least 20 hours a week on average
  • Pay one-third of the premium, unless the employer agrees to pay the employee’s third
  • Not have existing health coverage (individual or group)
  • Have been without health coverage for six months or more

The spouse of a CoverTN member may also be eligible for coverage under CoverTN.

To be eligible for coverage, your spouse must:

  • Be 19 years old or older
  • Be a U.S. citizen or qualified legal alien
  • Not have existing health coverage (individual or group)
  • Have been without health coverage for six months or more
  • Agree to be directly billed for two-thirds of the premium
