Choosing a CDHC plan option

Choosing a CDHC plan option

Employees will have their own considerations when choosing between the plans you offer. They should ask themselves:

  • How often do I utilize health care services?
    • Healthy members benefit from the lower premium costs.
    • Heavy utilizers benefit from the plan's easy-to-reach out-of-pocket max.
  • How much do I want to contribute to the financial arrangement?
    • Some employees will choose a plan based primarily on monthly premiums. But they should consider how much will be required out-of-pocket before benefits begin.
    • Also, employees should consider how much you will contribute, and how much they are willing to contribute to a financial arrangement before choosing a less-expensive CDHC plan.
  • Am I willing to adjust my health care habits in order to take advantage of cost savings associated with a CDHC plan?
    • Realizing the true cost of care helps encourage employees to make wiser health care choices.
    • However, employees must consider whether or not they are willing, or able, to modify their health care utilization habits to make a CDHC work for them.

Education is the key to understanding the CDHC philosophy. There are many Consumer Health Tools available on bcbst.com to help employees choose between plan options and make wiser health care choices.
