Optional Maternity Coverage

Optional maternity benefits include:

  • Prenatal care
  • Delivery services
  • Routine newborn nursery care at the hospital.

Maternity benefits will be paid on the same basis as any other condition, and subject to all policy provisions. There is a 10-month waiting period from the effective date of the maternity rider before any maternity benefits will be paid. If your delivery date occurs after your 10-month waiting period has been satisfied, any charges billed as part of the global maternity bill on your delivery date will be paid. Benefits will not be paid for services billed separately and received during your 10-month waiting period.

We will be unable to accept an application for coverage if the applicant or any dependent is pregnant.

Please note: The maternity rider is only available at the time of initial enrollment or within 31 days of the qualifying event of marriage or the loss of employer-sponsored coverage. You can drop maternity coverage at any time without terminating your health coverage. However, once you drop the maternity coverage you cannot reapply unless you have a qualifying event.
