Pharmacy benefit plans that use the Limited Formulary focus on the safe and effective use of generic drugs.. These plans do cover selected brand-name drugs for certain drug classes, but for several classes only generics are covered. OTC Medications
Many medications are available over the counter (OTC) at a cost less than their prescription drug counterparts. The Limited Formulary does not cover certain prescription allergy treatment drugs and stomach disorder drugs that have OTC alternatives.
