Walking works — in a lot of ways. A regular brisk-paced walk can help increase your energy, lift your spirits and improve your health too. A daily routine of brisk-paced walking can help you avoid serious health problems like heart disease, osteoporosis, Type 2 diabetes and conditions associated with obesity such as arthritis.

Race Etiquette

Many of the races we post on the WalkingWorks page are for both runners and walkers. If you are walking, please remember to be courteous to other participants by following these race etiquette guidelines:

 - Line up in the appropriate pace group. If you are a walker, please line up towards the back of the group so that you are not an obstacle for runners.

- Don’t walk more than two side-by-side. It’s fun to walk with friends, but when a large group walks in a row, it makes it more difficult for other participants to pass. Walk in pairs to make sure you don’t block the course.

- Be aware of your surroundings. Watch for other runners/walkers who may be moving at a faster pace. Move over to make room for people to pass you. If you have a reason to stop during the race, step off the course.
