What Your Pregnant Employees Should Know

If any of your enrolled employees become pregnant, please encourage them to enroll in HealthyTNBabies for their maternity benefits. CoverTN members MUST sign up for HealthyTNBabies instead of TennCare in order to keep CoverTN after their pregnancy. If they enroll in TennCare, the following will happen:

  • They will be disenrolled from CoverTN
  • They will be unable to re-enroll once their TennCare coverage ends, since CoverTN is now closed.

Today, more than ever, it's important that your enrolled employees be savvy about their health benefits. And by that, we mean understanding how to get the most out of their coverage.

Using their CoverTN plan is really simple. And even if they think they're taking full advantage of their benefits, it's always a good idea to keep a few key things in mind. So, we're going to take our participating employers through the basics, right from the beginning. That way, you can pass them on to your employees.

How Members Can Find In-Network Providers

Tell your employees that they can find a doctor or hospital in CoverTN's Provider Network V the following ways:

  • Search for providers and hospitals through the "Find a Doctor" tool at bcbst.com. This has the most current list of providers.
  • (For members without Internet access) Call Member Services at 1-888-887-3224.

Remind Members to Put Prevention into Practice

Working with your doctor to stay well is as important as getting treatment when you are sick. You are a key part of your own health care team.

Regular checkups are important

Press your enrolled employees to take charge of their health! Encourage them to schedule an appointment with their CoverTN Network V provider to talk about what preventive health services they need and when they need them. (For ways on finding a CoverTN provider, see article called "How Members Can Find In-Network Providers".

Health Care Reform and CoverTN

Although health care reform passed, CoverTN will continue to apply annual dollar and visit limits and quarterly dollar limits on prescription drugs.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services granted CoverTN a one-year waiver in December 2010 so we can continue to offer this limited benefit plan with the same benefits and premiums as last year.

CoverTN mailed a Member Handbook amendment about this to all members in January. The amended handbook can be found at bcbst.com. If you have any questions about this matter, call Member Services at 1-888-887-3224.

Don't Forget Important Enrollment Deadlines

New employees wishing to enroll in CoverTN must submit an enrollment form to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee within 30 days of their hire date. After 30 days, they must wait to enroll during CoverTN's annual open enrollment period in October.

This 30-day rule also applies to newly eligible employees, as well to new spouses of CoverTN participants. Newly eligible employees are those employees who now meet the requirement to be uninsured for six months prior to enrollment.
