Coverage for new hires and changes in coverage of spouses

New hires

Have a new employee? Make sure he or she doesn’t miss the window of opportunity to apply for CoverTN coverage. All new hires must apply for CoverTN coverage and have their application received at BCBST within 30 days from date of hire, or the application will be denied.

Adding or dropping a spouse from CoverTN coverage

Spouses can be added to or dropped from your employees’ CoverTN coverage by a qualifying event throughout the year. Qualifying events include, but are not limited to:

  • Marriage (The employee must submit a signed Enrollment Form within 30 days of the marriage.)
  • Divorce or annulment
  • Death
  • Involuntary loss of health insurance coverage
  • Spouse becoming entitled to Medicare, or
  • Meeting the six (6) month go-bare requirement.

Your employees will need to use the “Change Form” to add or drop a spouse. They can call Member Services to get the correct form.
