Health Insurance Marketplace
The Health Insurance Marketplace created as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) provides Tennesseans with affordable health insurance options and greater access to health care services. Health care plans purchased through the Marketplace are the same as other individual health plans offered by BlueCross, except they allow people to take advantage of potential federal subsidies.
Marketplace Changes for 2017
BlueCross had to make the difficult, but necessary, decision to scale back our Individual and Marketplace offerings for 2017. The partnerships we maintain with providers is a vital part of our business, which is why we want you to know about changes to the plans we will offer on the ACA Marketplace next year.
BlueCross will continue selling Individual and Marketplace plans in five of the eight ACA regions in Tennessee. We will not offer individual health plans, on or off the Marketplace, in the Memphis, Nashville or Knoxville regions. Our choice to participate in those five regions is to help ensure Tennesseans in every county of the state will have access to Marketplace plans. These changes will not affect any BlueCross employer-sponsored, BlueCare or TennCareSelect coverage, including members in Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville.
- Plans & Provider Networks
For the areas where we will continue offering coverage next year, we are simplifying our options. We intend to offer four plan types – one bronze, two silver and one gold – all featuring Network S, our most popular provider network. We will not offer plans with Network E.
- No Changes for Most of Your Patients
We understand that this change will affect many of our members and we apologize for any issues this may cause. However, a large majority of your patients will not be affected by this change. We remain committed to the Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville markets – offering plans in our other lines of business, employing hundreds of workers and supporting community outreach efforts.
- Patients Who Need to Change Plans
Your patients who have a BlueCross individual or Marketplace plan in the Memphis, Nashville or Knoxville regions will receive a letter to notify them of the change and their options for coverage in 2017.
