Medical policies are based on the scientific evidence that proves the merits of a particular medical technology.  Information and policy criteria regarding BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s (BCBST) Medical Policy Manual can be viewed at www.bcbst.com.

If a Physician Specialty Society (i.e.: a United States medical society that represents diplomats certified by a board recognized by the American Board of Medical Societies) recommends as an appropriate standard of care a new technology or treatment, or a new use for an established technology or treatment, BCBST will evaluate the recommendation.  For coverage regarding medical determinations regarding new technology, service, drug, etc. please visit our Medical Policy Manual.

For those Physician Specialty Societies wishing to make recommendations to BCBST, a written letter must be forwarded to:

Any recommendations that are addressed to others at BCBST will not be considered received by BCBST. Any misdirected requests will be forwarded to the appropriate person. However, it will not be considered received until it reaches the individual identified above.
