Building a more inclusive culture

We believe responsible companies are intentionally diverse and include people from all walks of life. That's why we've created a workplace where everyone is valued and respected – and where they know they're a part of the team.

Keeping up our commitment

For us, creating a diverse and welcoming culture means making sure everyone on our team has the opportunity to develop their skills. These programs don't just help us build a stronger workplace – they help us serve or members better:

  • Training, including cultural competency, Spanish and generational diversity classes
  • Mentoring programs, enhancing our understanding about diversity
  • Translation services for employees and members

Giving scholarships to the next generation

There is a greater need for access to care than ever before – and there is also a need for a qualified, diverse workforce to serve this state. We intend to deliver on both.

Since 2012, we have awarded BlueCross Power of We scholarships to address the need for more inclusion in the health care industry. In collaboration with the Memphis chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives, our health foundation awards $10,000 college scholarships to three minority students from Tennessee each year who are pursuing careers in the field of health care.

If you're interested in applying, you can learn more about applying here. Applications must be submitted by February 1, 2019.

Including people with disabilities

BlueCross is an experienced diversity and inclusion employer, so it’s important that we recognize more than race and gender. One way we’re doing that is by partnering with Project SEARCH, a global program that helps high school students who have intellectual and learning disabilities by matching them with internships at local companies. The students create career networks and gain important skills. And, our employees better understand and connect with the millions of people we serve.
