BlueCross Healthy Place at the Northwest Family YMCA

Improving community access for all

BlueCross Healthy Places Nashville YMCA

Expanded resources, expanded access

In 2017, the Northwest Family YMCA held community dialogue sessions to better understand the needs of the area and residents it serves. These sessions revealed a desire for additional resources and public recreational spaces, and the findings led the YMCA to apply for a BlueCross Healthy Place grant.

The BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation is investing $6.4 million to build the first BlueCross Healthy Place in the Nashville area. It will have assets for community members of all ages, and no YMCA membership will be required to enjoy the space.

Proposed features include:

  • Water features
  • Inclusive play areas for children ages 2-5 and 5-12
  • Challenge course
  • Basketball/pickleball courts
  • Multi-purpose field
  • Walking path
  • Adult fitness equipment
  • Shade structures
