BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee will continue to accept standard and non-standard formats for electronic claims for a limited time period beyond October 16, 2003. Non-standard formats include:
Standard claims format under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is the ANSI-837, Version 4010A1.
This is a temporary measure to allow providers not yet compliant with the transaction requirements of HIPAA to continue normal operations and maintain cash flow.
It should be stressed the acceptance of non-standard formats will only continue for a limited time. Providers and/or submitters should be actively testing the ANSI-837, version 4010A1 format via the company's self-testing system available on the Provider Home Page under Electronic Commerce. Providers should move into production on the HIPAA required format as soon as possible to avoid cash flow problems.
For further information on testing, contact e-Commerce at (423) 535-5717, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (EST).
