CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Roy Vaughn has been promoted to vice president of corporate communications at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

In this role, Vaughn has responsibility for public affairs, media relations and employee communications for the company, which employs 5,200 workers across Tennessee. He previously served as director of communications.

“Over the past three years, Roy has played a key role in advancing our company’s communications efforts,” said Ron Harr, senior vice president of human resources and public affairs for BlueCross. “His health care industry experience and expertise in issues management have helped us clearly position BlueCross in a time of significant change.”

Before joining BlueCross in 2007, Vaughn was a partner in the Nashville public relations firm, Katcher Vaughn & Bailey Public Relations (KVBPR). He helped found KVBPR in 1996 and led the client service team on the BlueCross account for nine years.

Vaughn currently serves on the board of Read 20 and the Downtown YMCA in Chattanooga. He served as national chair of the Counselors Academy, a 500-member special interest section of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), in 2007. Vaughn previously served as a board member for the Nashville chapter of PRSA, which honored him in 2002 with its Hercules Award for career achievement and service to the public relations profession. He earned the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) designation in 1993.

A Chattanooga native, Vaughn earned his bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University and has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus of the school’s Mass Communications program.
