New Website Guides Uninsured to Medical Help
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The more than 900,000 Tennesseans without health insurance now have a website where they can search for the nearest clinic to serve them, and find other helpful information about their health care needs. The Tennessee Crossings website is a service of the Tennessee Clinic Coalition (TCC), a statewide network of health care providers dedicated to serving the uninsured and underinsured. The site is funded by the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust.|
Visitors to the site can find a primary care medical home, dental care, mental health services, prescription medicines and substance abuse treatment.
“The federal health reform law is expected to dramatically reduce the number of uninsured in Tennessee in 2014 and beyond, but there is and will still be a need for this valuable resource,” said Calvin Anderson, senior vice president and chief of staff for BlueCross. “Our Community Trust views this effort by the Tennessee Clinic Coalition as vitally important to increase access to affordable care for our fellow Tennesseans.”
“Thanks to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, the clinics that care for the uninsured across Tennessee can now work together more effectively to improve the health of thousands of our neighbors,” said Dr. Scott Morris, executive director of the Church Health Center, a TCC member clinic. “The interactivity of this website will give us all the ability to communicate with each other in ways we have not had up until now.”
An additional feature of the site allows TCC member clinics to update their information. And, member clinics can use the site to share ideas and best practices with others in the state and to stay informed of health care reform initiatives and innovative health programs.
To become a member of the TCC, clinics must perform a variety of tasks from providing primary medical care to the uninsured and underserved in the state, to participating in best practices conferences with other member clinics.
