CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Dakasha Winton has been promoted to director and associate general counsel of state government relations for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Winton’s primary responsibilities are to facilitate exchange of information between BlueCross, the state’s leading health insurer, and state regulators and policymakers.

“In our industry, there is a constant flow of information back-and-forth between the company, regulators and others in state government,” said David Locke, BlueCross vice president of state government relations. “Dakasha knows our industry well from both the business and government sides, which helps keep things running smoothly.”

Winton joined BlueCross in 2009 as an attorney in BlueCross’ state government relations office. Prior to that, she was chief counsel to the insurance, securities and TennCare oversight divisions for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.

Winton earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Tennessee State University and a law degree from the University of Memphis. She serves as a volunteer board member for the non-profit Park Center in Nashville.
