    CoverKids

    CoverKids provides free, comprehensive health coverage for qualifying children age 18 and younger. The coverage includes an emphasis on preventive health services and coverage for physician services, hospital visits, vaccinations, well-child visits, healthy babies program, developmental screenings, mental health, vision and dental care. There are low co-pays for medical services, though well child visits and immunizations are covered at 100 percent.

    To be eligible, you must be:

    • 18 or younger or a pregnant woman who meets eligibility criteria
    • In a Household with income up to 250% of federal poverty level
    • A U.S. citizen or qualified legal alien (babies born in the U.S. will be considered U.S. citizens)
    • A Tennessee resident
    • Not eligible for TennCare
    • Not eligible for state employee health insurance or other state-sponsored insurance

    Refer to the table of qualifying incomes based on federal poverty guidelines to see if your child qualifies. If you meet the income guidelines, no monthly premiums will be charged, but each participant will pay reduced co-payments for services.

    How to Apply?

    Effective December 16, 2015, CoverKids applicants applying for child (non-pregnant) coverage must apply online by visiting www.healthcare.gov or toll-free 1-800-318-2596.

    Effective December 27, 2015, CoverKids pregnant applicants applying for maternity coverage can mail a paper application to CoverKids, P. O. Box 305230, Nashville, TN 37230-5230 or you can ask for a paper application at 1-866-620-8864. After December 31, 2015, you can visit http://tn.gov/coverkids/topic/coverkids-application to find a CoverKids application.

    The eligibility and enrollment process for this program is handled by an eligibility contractor for the State of Tennessee, not BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. For more information, visit tn.gov/coverkids.

    What’s Covered?

    CoverKids will not mail 2016 Member Handbooks and ID cards until the spring of 2016. Enrollees should continue using their 2015 Member Handbook and ID card.

    Benefits are based on household income levels:

    • Group One
      • Qualified applicants with total household incomes of between 150% and 250% of the Federal Poverty Level.
    • Group Two
      • Qualified applicants with total household incomes below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level.
    • Group One & Two, NANA
      • Qualified applicants who are Native Americans and Native Alaskans, with total household incomes of between 150% and 250% of the Federal Poverty Level or with total household incomes below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level

    How Much Does It Cost?

    There are no monthly premiums for qualified applicants with a total household income at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level.

    HealthyTNBabies

    HealthyTNBabies offers coverage for pregnancies and complications of pregnancies to qualified pregnant women. The CoverKids eligibility vendor will determine the date the coverage begins. Coverage ends after 60 days of postpartum care. HealthyTNBabies coverage is available through CoverKids.
