Eligibility to receive the tax credit depends on income and family size. It is available to a wide range of income levels.

The tax credit lets you choose between a lower monthly premium payment or a lump sum refunded with your tax return.

Do I Qualify for Cost Sharing Reductions?

If you enroll in a qualifying Silver-level plan on the Marketplace, you may be eligible for cost sharing reductions that help lower your out-of-pocket costs, like your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. Alaska Natives and American Indians may be eligible for even more help.

Before you apply for financial assistance, get these documents ready:

  • Mailing addresses for everyone you want to cover
  • Social Security Numbers or document information for Legal Residents
  • Income documents, such as pay stubs and/or W-2 forms
  • Your best estimate for your 2019 household income
  • Policy numbers for any current health insurance plans
  • A completed “Employer Coverage Tool” for every plan that someone in your household could get through their employer (available at HealthCare.gov)
