Coverage for new hires and changes in coverage of spouses

New hires:

Have a new employee? Make sure he or she doesn’t miss the window of opportunity to apply for CoverTN coverage.

All new hires must apply for CoverTN coverage and have their application received at BCBST within 30 days from date of hire, or the application will be denied. 

Adding or dropping coverage of a spouse:

Throughout the year, spouses can be added or dropped by current members by a qualifying event. Qualifying events include, but are not limited to:

  • Marriage (You must submit a signed Enrollment Form within 30 days of the marriage.)
  • Divorce or annulment
  • Death
  • Involuntary loss of health insurance coverage
  • Spouse becoming entitled to Medicare, or
  • Meeting the six (6) month go-bare requirement.

To add or drop a spouse, you must submit a Change Form in addition to the Enrollment Form within 30 days of the qualifying event.
