BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee contracts with Magellan Behavioral Health, Inc. (Magellan) to provide certain contracting and utilization management/case management services. Together we support providers in meeting the behavioral health needs of members as follows:

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee:

  • Processes all behavioral health claims
  • Handles all standard member grievances concerning behavioral health
  • Answers customer service questions
  • Provides online access to behavioral health claims and eligibility
  • Provides oversight of Magellan for Credentialing and Network Management, Utilization Review and Case Management, and Quality Improvement.

Magellan:

  • Contracts and credentials behavioral health providers
  • Handles all expedited member grievances concerning behavioral health
  • Serves as provider relations representative for contracted providers by educating and assisting providers with contracting, reimbursement, and other issues
  • Issues authorizations for inpatient levels of care, and outpatient care, if required by the member’s plan
  • Processes provider's clinical appeals
  • Provides Intensive Case Management when appropriate
