H1N1 Vaccine Administration for Group HDHPs

Following our announcement about covering the cost of H1N1 flu shots, there have been some questions about H1N1 vaccine administration benefits in High Deductible Health Plans.

Questions include:

  • Does the charge for the H1N1 vaccine administration apply to the deductible?
  • Does the member have to pay the $20 preventive copay?

To answer these questions, the H1N1 vaccine administration is covered at 100 percent in all insured plans, including HDHPs. There is no member cost share, so nothing applies to the deductible or to the out-of-pocket maximum.  This does not disqualify the plan, because the vaccine is considered a preventive service.
