Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about shopping for plans? We’ve got answers.

How/when can I enroll in or switch to an individual or family plan?

You can sign up during the Open Enrollment Period, which opened on Nov. 1, 2025 and ends Jan. 15, 2026. If you’ve had a major life change (like getting married, losing your Medicaid or employer coverage, moving out of state, etc.) during the rest of the year, you could shop with a special enrollment window for a limited time. There’s more about that here.

How/when can I enroll in or switch my employer’s plan?

Your employer likely has an enrollment window each year for you to sign up, unless you’re a new employee. You can also sign up or change your plan any time you have a major life change, like getting married or having a child. Talk with your HR team about how to get enrolled.

How/when can I enroll in or switch a Medicare plan?

If you’re just turning 65 or retiring, you have a window of three months before and three months after your birthday to sign up for Medicare.

After your initial enrollment period, you can join or switch plans during set times each year.

The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) goes from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. If you have Original Medicare, you can join a Medicare Advantage plan during this time. If you already have a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to another or go back to Original Medicare. Your new plan will start on Jan. 1 of the next year.

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP) goes from Jan. 1 to March 31. It’s for people who are already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan — even if you just signed up for one during AEP.

During MA OEP, you can switch to another Medicare Advantage plan. Or you can switch to Original Medicare. But you can only switch once during this period each year. Your new plan will start on the first day of the month after you switch.

Need a plan outside of these dates? If you’ve lost your coverage or had a major life change, you may qualify to make changes to your plan right away. Call us if you have questions.

How can I enroll in a BlueCare Plus Tennessee plan?

You might be eligible for one of our BlueCare Plus Tennessee plans if you qualify for Medicare and are a BlueCare℠ member or enrolled in TennCare's 1915(c) waiver program.  You might also be eligible if you are part of TennCare’s Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program.
